July 6, 2022

Teddie Lynn Conley, 87, of Lexington, Ky died Saturday, July 2, 2022 at his home. He was born April 8, 1935 in Mash Fork, Ky a son of the late James B. and Fannie Prater Conley. Teddy was formerly of Ashland. Central Park in Ashland was Ted’s playground as he lived only a few blocks away. Years later, he returned to the park weekly in the summers to play in a softball league. Ted was an avid tennis player and in his early days of playing, they too, were at Central Park. He then became involved in several tennis leagues at both Ashland Tennis Center and Breezeland Pool. Continuing in the vein of athletics, Ted became a referee of Ashland High School basketball following them to many tournaments. He often claimed, “I never made a wrong call in my life!” That confident characteristic accompanied him as he passionately counseled with adults in the field of vocational training as district manager for the state of KY. He retired from this field after 30 years of service. He then, along with his wife, Sue, had a retail business in both Ashland and Lexington where they moved in 1992 to be close to their children. Unable to slow down, Ted went to work for Lab Corp in Lexington for another 25 years. Ted took great pride in his appearance and was often complimented on his great style wherever he went. He was also President of Ky Rehabilitation Association in 1969 and Member and Past President of the Kiwanis Club in Ashland. His academic achievements consist of being a graduate of the 1953 class of Ashland High School and he graduated from Marshall University in 1957. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived his wife of 64 years, whom he married Aug. 7, 1957, Laura Sue Reffitt Conley, two children David Wade Conley and Lisa (George) Conley Dickens, grandchildren Emily (Alex) Dickens McGlone, Alyssa Brooke Dickens (Sean Schomp fiancé), great grandchildren Conley Renee McGlone and Halen Elizabeth McGlone. Services for Teddy will be Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 12 noon at the Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland by Minister Jimm Smedley with burial to follow in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 1 hour before service time Saturday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lexington Humane Society. Lazear Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to have been entrusted with the care of Mr. Conley.
