Judith Ellen Chabot, 85, of Ashland, Ky, died at home Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after surgery.
Judy was born in Lexington, Ky on October 6, 1940, the daughter of the late William and Catherine Greif Thompson. She attended schools in Ashland, graduating from Ashland Holy Family, where she later taught. She was degreed in languages from Morehead State University; afterwards took science classes at UK in Lexington, and Marshall University, to develop her skills to serve in a 35-year career as a Laboratory Supervisor at Ashland Community College, teaching Chemistry, Microbiology, and Physics.
She was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Her passion was serving in religious outreach at the Federal Correctional Institution, Ashland, from the mid-1990’s to present.
Surviving is her husband, Denis Chabot, to whom she had been married for over 35 years; a daughter, Suzanne (Dan) Cremeans, of Lawrence County, Ky; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers: Bob (Karen) Thompson, John (Bobbie) Thompson, and Mark (Susan) Thompson, one sister, Mary Ann (Rick) Klein, and one sister-in-law Censia Thompson. Preceding her in death were her son, James Thompson, a brother, William Thompson, and a sister, Elizabeth (John) Hannah.
Visitation will be at 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, August 10, 2026 at the Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Church, by Pastor V. Rev. D. Andrew Canon Garner, KHS, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
