Edwin P. (Paul) Helton finished his course and passed peacefully from this life on April 9, 2020 with his loving sons by his side.
Paul was born February 2, 1931 in Maggofin County Salyersville, KY to Leslie and Flora Howard Helton. Paul started school at Charles Russell Elementary in South Ashland and was a graduate of Boyd County High School. Following graduation, Paul attending business college for two years before serving his country in the Korean War.
After the war Paul worked at Allied Chemical in South Point. He then opened the Helton Hardware Store on Rt 60 in Summit. He was at the helm of his successful business for more than forty years. He has a reputation for honesty and a caring attitude and earned the respect and friendship of his many loyal customers. He was also a John Deere Dealership and Tool rental business. Paul loved the lord and was always devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby James Helton. He later married Zeta Gillum Helton who also preceded him in death. He was a friend to all, and always willing to help others. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his parents and wives Paul was preceded in death by his baby son Michael, sister Reva Helton Swanson, brother-in-law Lester Swanson, brother and sister-in-law Don and Sue Helton, grandson Garrett Wayne Helton, stepson and stepdaughter Don and Diane Gillum, nephew Michael R. Helton, and nephew Bill Johnson.
He is survived by his sons Edwin P. Helton Jr. (Debbie) of Ashland and Gary Helton (Tamara) of Summit, stepson Barry Gillum, and friend Kim Keffer of Ashland, granddaughters Julie Helton, Jennifer Wilkes (Terry), and Courtney Blackburn, all of Ashland, Amanda Helton Packard (Andrew), of Harrison, Ohio, Bethany Seaman Ginandt (Robbie) of Cincinatti, Ohio, grandson Joey Seaman (Tara) of Sarasota, Florida, Kari Madden Pilgrim (Matt), and Jessica Madden Hall (Jeff), brothers-in-law Roger (Jetta) James of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Ersel James of Deland, Florida, ten great grandchildren, nieces Carol Porter, Paula Helton Qualls, Leslie Helton May and nephews Ron Helton, Jim Helton, John Porter (Kim), and Frank Swanson, and special friend Zetta Hyder and her son Chuck and (Elbenta) Hyder.
The family will have a private graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery, with Joey Kennedy officiating. A memorial service with military rights will be held at a later date after the pandemic passes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Old Orchard Christian Church Children’s Ministry, 3600 Blackburn Avenue, Ashland, Ky.
