Dorothy Bailey Morrison, 92, passed  away peacefully Monday, July 20, 2020 at Woodland Oaks in Ashland, Ky.   Dorothy was born February 11, 1928 in Raleigh County, West Virginia.  She was the youngest daughter of the late Fannie Loving Bailey and French Bailey. She is survived by her sister, Opal Roberts of Mallory, WV. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wilbert Bailey.

Dorothy was married in 1944 to the late Russell C. Morrison, father of her three children, Dreatha Armbrester (Michael) of Gallatin, TN, Linda Gates (James), of Willowwood, OH, and Russell C. Morrison, Jr. (Patricia) of Foley, AL. She was a homemaker and was a former employee of Kings Daughter’s Hospital.

Dorothy loved to listen to country music and was a fan of NASCAR racing. She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She was loved by all who knew her and she will truly be missed.

She loved to joke and tease with her eight grandchildren: Matthew Gates (Tracy), of Grimesville, NC, Steven Gates, of Gallipolis, OH, Christopher Gates (Melissa) of Willowwood, OH, Jeffrey Rice and Stacey Stone (her only granddaughter) both of Easley, SC, Bryan Morrison (Cali) of Bozeman, MT, Michael Morrison (Samantha), and David Morrison of Lexington, KY.

Dorothy was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Matthew and Austin Gates of Grimesville, NC, Travis (Kalli), Hannah and Jaxson Gates of Willowwood, OH, Nicholas Ison, of Easley, SC, and Bryce and and Portia Morrison of Bozeman, MT.

She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved her so, including Peggy Maynard (Danny) of Flatwoods, KY  who was always there to visit and help out when called upon.

The family is so thankful to the managers and staff of Woodland Oaks for their love and care of Dorothy during all the 13 years she was a resident there.

We are also grateful to the nurses and staff of Community Hospice for their constant updates and emotional  support during the last few weeks of her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dorothy’s memory to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101.

We also wish to thank Lazear Funeral Home for their kind and professional advice and assistance to our family now and in the past.
