Bernadette Slusher (Mayberry) 89 of Hudson Florida, formerly of Ashland, Kentucky, died on November 29, 2023, from an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Joseph & Laura Layman Mayberry. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Gene Slusher (2017), her only brother Raymond Mayberry, three sisters Veronica Serey, Annabelle O’Neal & Rosemary Ellington, as well as nephews Joey & Vincent Mayberry and two great nieces Heather Serey Wilson & Lyndsay Serey. She leaves behind Robert Gene Slusher Jr. & his first wife Sally Slusher (Jacksonville/Hudson, Florida), Kevin James Slusher (Terry) Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Laura Jo Jacobs (Duane) New Port Richey, Florida, one grandson Jarrod Patrick Slusher (Ashland), three granddaughters, Christy Marie Shope of Lexington, Kentucky, Megan Elizabeth Slusher (Don Kouns) Ashland, Kentucky, and Monica Rose Taylor (Nathan) Dayton, Ohio, two step-sons Eric Frank Jacobs of New Port Richey, Florida and Lucus Duane Jacobs of Clearwater, Florida, great-grandsons, Caden Lee Riley, Emmit Jayce Kouns, Tucker Owen, Henry Conrad & Russell Garrison Taylor, great-granddaughters, Mila Ray Slusher, Raygan Lillie Kouns & Norma Maybry Taylor, step great-grandchildren Laykin & Brooklyn Kouns and Weston Jacobs, nieces Elaine Mayberry Phillips Hibbett, Cheri Serey Light, & Betsy Serey Wallace and nephews Bill Serey, Paul Richard (PR) Stephens and Joe Ellington.
In 1952 Bernadette went to work at the Department of Economics Security after graduating from Holy Family High School. In 1955 she began her 26-year career with the Ashland Credit Bureau, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chamber of Commerce, where she was the manager. Following her departure from the Credit Bureau she worked in the business office at Kings Daughters Medical Center (KDMC), prior to her retirement. Following her retirement KDMC requested her to return to help collect debts at Kingsbrook Life Care Center until final retirement. She was a member of Holy Family Church and affiliated with many organizations over the years at the church. She enjoyed socializing with her memberships to American Legion, Eagles, VFW, Moose, Elks, Amvets and Knights of Columbus. A die-hard Democrat she enjoyed bingo, pulling tips, dancing, watching UK basketball & CNN and helping those in need. A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland by V. Rev. D. Andrew Garner, KHS with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour before service time Tuesday.
